Director of Merchandise Buying – Electronics
A major “Big Box” retailer is currently looking for an experienced DIRECTOR OF MERCHANDISE BUYING – ELECTRONICS. This company is a prominent, high volume retail organization that is actively seeking a results-driven, strategic professional to develop and implement services for customers.
The position will lead a team of merchandise buyers and develop new high-quality computer, electronics, and desktop workstation and server product assortments at the best possible prices. This position reports to the CEO and is part of the leadership team. This role will supervise a team of 3-5 merchandise buyers. Experience with AI computers and Nvidia Digits a plus!

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and manage an assortment of branded laptop workstations, desktop workstations, such as Dell Precision, etc., servers, and Nvidia Digits. Create a structured strategy covering product selection, demand forecasting, pricing, vendor relationships, and customer segmentation.
- Lead a merchandise team (three to five buyers) in developing annual and seasonal merchandising strategies while driving the total business financial merchandising plans: retail sales, unit sales, gross margin dollars, gross margin percent, CO-OP funding, and other marketing resources.
- Work with and guide the team to select products that align with brand identity and customer demand. Ensure category expansion and assortments are regularly reviewed and improved based on competitive pricing and product attributes.
- Maintain consistent awareness of key competitors and lead the team in ongoing competitive shopping and research to identify new and emerging relevant trends that can be incorporated into current and future business plans.
- Develop a structured approach to team training, skill-building, and strategic alignment with business goals.
- Establishing and maintaining strategic executive vendor relationships to ensure Company is first to market with product launches and maintain consistent product availability. Consistently bring new vendors into the mix to keep the assortment timely and unique.
- Collaborate with marketing, digital, and e-commerce teams to develop campaign strategies that drive traffic, conversion, and sales.
- Partner with the VP of Retail Sales and Merchandising to support executing merchandising plans, visual merchandising presentations, and seasonal direction.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Retail Merchandising, Marketing, or Business preferred
- A minimum of 10-15 years of merchant experience in the Consumer Electronics industry
- Leadership experience managing a team of merchandise buyers
- Strong negotiation skills needed
- A proven track record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with vendors
- Must be a team player
- Knowledge of purchasing and forecasting systems required as well as proficiency in MS Office with an emphasis on Excel and Outlook
- Travel required
